In 1960, Sylvan Brandt was a hard-working man at a nearby factory, but his $65/week job wasn't enough to provide for his family. One day, while he and a friend were reading the newspaper, they found a beautiful, old stone house and barn ready for demolition. Neither of them had any experience with salvaging, but they both saw an opportunity to make ends meet.
Our passion for old buildings and their unique characteristics has led us to preserve their history in all of our products. The naturally distressed antique flooring made from reclaimed wood cannot be replicated with new lumber. In addition to our beautiful antique flooring, we also stock a wide inventory of original architectural items.
At Sylvan Brandt we offer our customers the perfect beauty of imperfection. Through careful inspection and quality control, we produce the best boards and flooring that antique and salvage wood offer. To cut down on waste and keep our prices as low as possible, you may find that we do not offer the same options that you might find elsewhere.

This is a wonderful company to work with. I bought a small amount of 3 pine heart flooring to patch the living room floor in my rowhouse in Capitol Hill. Dean was very helpful with all of my questions. When we arrived to pick up the flooring, he had already laid out some lengths for our review. Pieces were very reasonable.

This place specializes in reclaimed wood and furniture. Their warehouses are filled with all sorts of wood saved from the landfill and ready for their new home.
