Services
Seattle Floor Service is on the cutting edge of the hardwood flooring industry and has been a staple to Seattle Communities for nearly 25 years. Whether you are planning to refinish your existing floors or install new ones, Seattle Floor Service is the only call you need to make! Seattle Floor Service specializes in DUSTLESS hardwood floor refinishing but also offers a full range of services to accommodate your hardwood flooring needs. This includes: floor installations, exotic woods, fir floors, stains, board replacement or weaving, and top-nailed floors.
When it comes to refinishing floors, the question Munson most often fields is to Swedish or not to Swedish? Swedish finishes are famous for their buttery good looks and durability, but also have a high "volatile organic content" and a noxious smell that can take days to dissipate. The good news, says Munson, is water-based finishes have improved quite a bit. We're seeing a real environmental trend, and are doing more and more water-based finishes now.
Hardwood flooring has a natural beauty that will give any room a very warm feeling. When building a new home, adding an addition or just taking up old carpeting that doesn't have a hardwood floor beneath, you should look at the wide variety of wood flooring available. Unlike carpet, 3/4 thick wood flooring can take wear and tear and last well over 100 years with minimum maintenance (see our maintenance FAQs). When the surface finish wears, or gets scratched over time, you can recoat or sand and refinish the floors to make them new again.
Seattle Floor Service offers four main types of floor finish for your wood floor, Polyurethane, Swedish, Waterborne, e-Floor and Osmo Polyx - Oil. Each type has its advantages, and understanding the differences between the four will help you to make the best decision.

We needed our worn out 1957 floors refinished & wanted to weave in new hardwoods in the kitchen. We consulted with the owner, Craig & were excited about the plan. Bruce came out & had his work cut out with our un-level old house. Everything came out more beautiful than we imagined & we were so glad we went with a company that had the experience to handle whatever came up!

Craig and his crew at Seattle Floor Service do the job right. As others have mentioned, they will tell you what is possible and what is not possible in the way of repairs, stain removal, etc. I worked with them 20+ years ago and just had all the wood floors refinished by them in two Seattle houses in the past couple of months. Both houses involved stairs and a mix of oak hardwood and fir floors.

Both jobs involved top nailed oak floors. We chose Swedish finish for one house and a water based product for the other. One required some floor patching of the top nailed oak. The floors of both houses turned out beautifully. Craig provided quotes which were competitive if not the cheapest as well as very good advice. The crews showed up on time, did quality work and left a clean job site. I will use them anytime I need wood floor installation or refinishing.

I've had several floors in different houses done by Seattle Floor Service including a job completed this summer. They understand wood floors, they don't mind telling you something you may not want to hear (e.g., this floor can't be redone, that issue can't be fixed without starting over). They do good work, at the price they describe, add-ons and changes are easily dealt with and the final bill isn't a surprise. The results are excellent.

Poor quality work. The original hardwood looked far better than the work Seattle Floors did. They were contracted to do three coats of Swedish finish, but did two. The putty work between boards was terrible. They do not stand behind they're work. I was a builder before retiring and have worked with many hardwood floor companies, but this is the worst floor company I've ever worked with.

I own some rental property and have done business with this company on a few occasions. Craig has always been honest with me. I explained I have an older duplex zoned and slated for a teardown in a few years. It didn't make economic sense to spend money on refinishing so he gave me a gallon of heavy duty cleaner and it worked perfectly. I recommend them highly.

This guy is honest! Craig Munson is exactly the kind of guy you want to hire for your job. He was upfront with us about what didn't need work, and how we could save money. He is professional and an expert in his field. He is enjoyable to work with, and doesn't put his own interests before the customer's.

Seriously.can't recommend them highly enough. We researched Yelp and Angie's List; got three bids; and chose the middle one. The work had to be done on an old house before we could move in, a few weeks before Christmas. Craig Munson (owner) was very flexible and realistic as our start dates kept changing, but they started work exactly when they said they would, and had it completed a day or two earlier than expected.

The project involved refinishing the oak floors on an entire level of an old house; including staining, and patching some gaps where walls had been removed. We wanted to get the stain just right, and they were extremely helpful by providing stained samples to choose from. They patched in the gaps perfectly; even up close it is indistinguishable from the rest of the floor.

They were able to stain and finish even under cabinets that we didn't think they could get to. It's really amazing work, and we're extremely happy with the result. They cleaned up after themselves, and left us with good info on taking care of the floors.

The WORST company. The owner hired a sub contractor to work on my floor. The workmanship was so bad, I had to hire another flooring company to redo the whole floor. It was a painful experience. Plus, it hired the illegal work. No license and bond. Good luck if you want to hire this company :

Met with the owner Craig to get a bid on our 72 year old top nailed oak floors that had not been refinished ever. After 4 days the result was amazing! they look great, We had no idea what was lurking under the old finish.his crew was prompt, friendly and explained the whole process when we had questions. I would not think twice about using them again. kudo's to Seattle Floor service.

Seattle Floor Service delivered with quality work, a competive bid, and friendly serivce. Craig (who completed the estimate), answered all of my questions and came up with inexpensive solutions for a couple of problem areas that other contractors simply glossed over. I opted for a water-based finish (less toxic) and a rosewood stain. The completed work looks amazing and really refreshes the entire house! I highly recommend Seattle Floor Service (And I already have given out their number to a couple of co-workers!).

We had our floors redone in July by these guys based on a friend's recommendation and couldn't be happier. They were professional all the way through and did a fantastic job. The estimate was competitive and the quality of work was top notch. We went for water-based finish because Swedish Finish is notoriously toxic, and we had three coats put on to make sure it stood up to wear and our dog's stylishly long nails.

The end result far exceeds our expectations - our floors look beautiful. The difference from before is quite startling and it really feels like a significant upgrade to our house. Again, we couldn't be happier!

Seattle floors repaired the damage caused by another floor person who left huge swirl indentations. Craig and his colleagues did a fine job repairing the damage. Craig, the owner is highly professional and cares deeply for his customers. He's also a very funny, sincere guy. It was a pleasure doing business with Seattle Floor Service.

Seattle Floor Service refinished the red oak floors on the first floor of my home and installed new flooring in two closets and a section of one room that did not have hardwood under the existing carpet. Their quote was neither the least nor the most expensive. They provided multiple quotes for different scenarios (3 rooms, 2 rooms, etc.). The quotes were detailed, which I really appreciated, and responses to my questions were thorough and included helpful photos showing different finishes.

Their response time to questions (via email and left on voicemail) could have been faster in my opinion (they generally responded within a day, sometimes faster).but I tend to be impatient. The work started on the day we agreed to (a Tuesday) but took a day longer than expected (finished on Friday) and we couldn't enter the house the last two days until 8:30 PM to let coats of finish dry.

I believe this was due to a few late breaking discoveries made on premise after carpet was lifted in the closets. I emphasized the need to have the work done that week and they responded by making sure that it got done. The floors look great and the transition from the new floor they installed in one room to the refinished floor in the same room is practically invisible.

The rooms were left spotless, I was really impressed by how clean everything was left. Billing was relatively uneventful. The work done included an item (installing new flooring in a closet) not on the initial quote. I agreed to have that work done, but was never quoted a price. When the job was completed I didn't receive a phone call asking how things went but did receive the final bill marked "paid in full" with the additional work included.

The rate charged for the additional item was fair, but I would have preferred to have been provided with the estimated cost for the additional work earlier in the process and to have authorized final billing. All in all my experience with Seattle Floor Service was good, but improvements in communication are certainly possible. I recommend them and will consider them for future projects.

These guys did a great job on our floors - they look spectacular. The estimator (Andy Taylor) was excellent on communication prior to the job and everything looks great now - frankly, much better than we had even hoped for.

In general, we are very satisfied with our floors and with the service we received. Just a few complaints (and suggestions for improvement). First the positive stuff: Andy Taylor in Customer Service was very helpful in the planning stages.we were unsure which wood type and stain to use and he patiently walked us through our choices, and even provided some actual stained samples (delivered to our front door), which made our decision much easier.

Our job came with a few challenges (some of the flooring had to be placed over a small stretch of concrete slab) and they came up with good (and inexpensive) solutions. The end result was a beautiful floor that appears to be very durable as well. Our complaints: 1. The job required them to do one coat of finish, then wait for appliances, etc to be installed before they could return to apply the 2nd coat.

When they did return, they claimed that the first coat was too "marred" and needed to be repaired before the 2nd coat could be applied. This delayed the job by a few days and set our counter installation back a week due to scheduling issues. However, our contractor had laid down lots of protective cardboard over the floor between coats and on the day planned for the 2nd coat of finish, the technician did not show up until very late in the day to do the 2nd coat.

We were skeptical that the floor was truly damaged by our contractor, and suspected that might have been an excuse to cover the fact that they showed up late. However, all that said, I am glad that they took the time to do the job right. 2. The installer did not provide a piece of trim wood at one end of the floor (under a fireplace), and this had to be provided by our contractor (so it didn't match the floor wood exactly, just close enough). Andy did offer to provide trim when I requested it, but by then it was going to be much faster to just have our contractor do it.

It seemed odd that we even had to ask. 3. The installer was not very communicative and I had to push him to explain how things were going, if there were any issues, etc. Might be nice to have him explain upfront what he would be doing that day, etc, since we were every interested in how things were proceeding. I know that these jobs become commonplace for the workers, but each job is likely the first for the customer, and it helps to feel like the installer is taking it as seriously as we are. Also, unlike the experience posted by another customer on this site, the installer did not just barge in, but rather waited in our driveway (without knocking) until we were leaving the house so he could get in.

I thought it was odd that he didn't just knock, but I'm grateful he didn't barge in, either! 4. During the sanding phase, a ton of dust settled downstairs below our kitchen. This was probably unavoidable, but it would have been nice if we had been warned to put down tarps, etc to make the clean-up a lot easier! 5. After living with the floor for several months, we noticed a number of places where the finish had been applied unevenly, or where drops of finish had dried on.

In general, it seems the finishing job was sloppier than we originally appreciated, which is disappointing, but not something we plan to change anytime soon. When it comes time to re-finish, though, we will likely use another company. Overall, we were fairly pleased with Seattle Floor Service.

Our floors turned out very beautiful, but it took a lot of follow up and watching on my part (luckily I am currently unemployed and have the time), and they were in good shape to begin with, too (the project was to refinish fairly pristine fir floors that were under carpet). My issues with Seattle Floor Service are four fold: - it's expensive.

I thought going with the most expensive estimate would ensure I got the best of the best. I may have gotten a good end result but the process was far less than ideal. - there's quite a bit of a disconnect in communication between the office staff and laborers and customer (a common problem with contractors in general, but like I said, I thought I had gone with the best).

I had a really hard time communicating directly with the people who were at my house doing the work, which meant I had to call the office, leave a message, and repeat my concerns to them, as well. - they INSIST (and it is in their contract) that you must give them a key to your home, even if you will be there the entire time they are doing their work, as I was.

My key was passed from one laborer to the next (and it was a different person each of the 3 days they worked!) after hours or who knows when. They did not let me know what time they would be arriving each day, and on the first day of work we were awakened at 7am by our house alarm system going off (which calls the police, by the way) because the worker had NOT KNOCKED and just let himself on in with the key!

None of the other workers on subsequent days knocked either, not once. I couldn't believe it. When I expressed my concern to the office rep about the key situation, he said that they have an excellent reputation. Well, that is all fine and good, but to be honest, it doesn't mean jack to me. All it takes is for one of their workers (and like I said, we had three different ones have access to our key) to slip through their reputable cracks and I've got who knows how many people out there with copies of the key to my home. Basically, this says to me that their schedule/time is more important than their customers' security.

So add to their already expensive cost the cost of re-keying your home (see my review for Ballard Lock and Key). And the last worker to leave was apparently going to hang onto my key because I had to ASK for it back as he was going out the door! - they didn't finish their work. I had to call the office and ask for someone to come back and complete the job.

They must have sensed my malcontent (I'm always very polite even if I am angry) because they sent a really nice and capable guy who was easy to communicate with. I kind of got the idea that he was their "clean up" guy, the one who they send to appease people who aren't very happy. If it wasn't for him, they'd be getting one star. To me, the key thing was the deal breaker here.

These guys did a project on Magnolia for us a back about 5 years ago and there were great. They were well organized and extremely fast. I only wish I could find more service providers who were as well organized and competent. There didn't give us the cheapest bid of the 3 we received but we went with them because we liked their team and we feel we got our moneys worth because the floor still looks great - considering it has been about 5 years and they saved us head aches because we didn't have to manage them, we simply had to tell them what we want. Highly recommended.

This place is as close as you come to a family business these days. I had my floors refinished by Seattle Floor Service under a year ago. All I can say is I couldn't be more happy. From start to finish the guys at Seattle Floor Service were there to guide me through the process. The estimator was very friendly; I think his name was Andy. He answered all my questions and at no point seemed like he was itchina to get out of my house.

I met with a few other wood floor contractors to get competitive bids and they seemed like they wanted to leave before the even showed up. EVERY question i asked he had an answer to. At no point did he fumble and seem like he was trying to change topics. I have a very old fir floor, which some of the other contractors seems kind of wary of. Andy told me what may happen when we patched the old with the new and really made sure i knew what i was getting into.

They even gave me an evaluation form which i saw hanging in there office when i went back to get my FREE floor protectors and my first bottle of cleaner, which is free for life! The owner is always present at their shop so you can (almost) always get a hold of someone right away. He is a joker, which keeps phone calls and office visits entertaining (very important in my opinion).

The work was started and completed on schedule and to my complete satisfaction. My home feels transformed. To sum up my experience with Seattle Floor: Up front, polite, efficient and professional and my floors are BEAUTIFUL! 100% Recommended.
