I started Black's Farmwood in the late 1990s. Due to my concerns regarding global deforestation and climate change, I decided to leave a Ph. D. program in clinical psychology in San Francisco. I headed east to help deconstruct my family's barn in Ohio. The 150-year-old oak barn had recently fallen in a storm, and I asked my grandmother what she planned to do with the wood.

We are thrilled with the floor we purchased from Black's Farmwood! It is everything we hoped it would be and more. Michael Black assisted us from the beginning and was terrific about providing the pros and cons of all of our choices, as well as being great with follow-up once we had decided upon the material. We replaced almost all of the carpeted floors in our home with a character grade European White Oak in a wide plank style and a natural finish.
We used a contractor Michael recommended for installation, Luis Davila, who was also great to work with. The installation was beautiful, and Luis and his crew were skilled, professional and a pleasure to have in our home. We highly recommend this exceptional business if you are looking for high quality and unique hardwood flooring!

I cannot say enough about how wonderful Black's Farmwood is! I am an Interior Designer and was in search of some fabulous reclaimed wood for a kitchen beam and fireplace mantel. I drove to Petaluma and met Michael. He couldn't have been more helpful and the range of beautiful reclaimed wood products he has is amazing. Finding the right finish, color and size for the reclaimed wood was crucial for our project and Michael worked really hard to find the perfect pieces for us. My Clients are over the moon. Several weeks ago my husband and I took a day trip to Petaluma in search of reclaimed wood planks for a remodel project in our family room. We thought we knew just what we wanted.until we met Michael at Black's Farmwood. He took the time to explain the cons of using the product we intended and instead steered us toward a more suitable option.
It was an option that would not result in a sale to him but nonetheless he spent a good deal of time with us explaining in detail how we could achieve the look we wanted. Michael is the nicest, most sincere proprietor we have met in a long time, and he knows his stuff! Thanks again Michael!

We built a modern farmhouse on 15 acres in Sonoma County. We were lucky to find Black's Farmwood and we finished it with a very green product, several thousand feet of white oak flooring.it has made our look! We had previously used Black's Farmwood for our floor in a home in Marin County. The floor turned out to be amazing, so we have become loyal customers. This is the only company that we would ever consider using for environmentally friendly wood flooring, beams, and other wood products.
